The symbolism of the Indian Himalayas in the Indian psyche is immense. The mountains have inspired Indian mythology and traditions for over three thousand years. On a phenomenal level, the Himalayas have been an imposing barrier for invaders to India and allowed native cultures to flourish untouched. Since ancient times, the mountains have been sought by pilgrims of both Buddhist and Hindu thought. Even today, seers and mystics retire to the Himalayas to find the source of all existence.
Today, its depth and diversity of flora and fauna invites travelers from all over the world to discover the glaciers, valleys, rivers and wildlife. We must add that modern farming practices, deforestation and uncontrolled development have had an adverse impact on the Himalayas. But, there are still huge tracts of the mountains that are untouched and pristine. We have discovered a few such Edens in our travels which we would like to share with you...
